Before the mirror, I suddenly laugh at myself,
For my beard is openly and thickly white.
My young daughter's eyes are the sharpest,
She trims the white hairs for me.
They hang down like raw silk threads,
Too frail to mend a worn-out coat.
Like autumn weeds growing unevenly,
They spread wildly and cannot be cleared.
I know full well that I am old,
Once white, they can never turn black again.
Lack of flesh makes a man gaunt,
Dim eyes hinder the reading of books.
Think of Yan Si and Zhu Zhiwu,
I am not one of those men.
