穷山从薄宦，小郡著衰翁。

qióng shān cóng bó huàn， xiǎo jùn zhuó shuāi wēng。

政术甘疏拙，辞坛敢长雄。

zhèng shù gān shū zhuō， cí tán gǎn cháng xióng。

一饥才自救，五细未宜中。

白话文翻译

在穷僻的山野担任卑微的官职，

这个小郡安置着我这衰老之人。

政术拙劣，我甘于如此疏懒笨拙；

在诗坛之上，岂敢自称长久称雄？

只有饥饿时才能勉强自救；

身具五种细弱，不宜居于朝中。

又打算含羞忍辱地离去，

去沾染京城那软红十丈的尘嚣。

In these barren hills, I toil in a petty post;

This small prefecture hosts a man in his decline.

My governance is clumsy, and I'm content with that;

In the realm of verse, how dare I claim to be grand?

Only when hunger strikes do I manage to save myself;

With five frailties, I'm unfit for the court's high station.

Once more, I plan to depart, bearing shame and disgrace;

To brave the capital's dust and its alluring reds.
