何子画山心极苦,不画山林画其趣。
不知此绢厚几许,隐隐深入疑有路。
去年持此干贵权,数幅得官仍得钱。
平民常产卖有尽,笔端有产无穷年。
而今东绢知何数,不为水墨为襦袴。
我怜何子老更痴,平民皆饱汝独饥。

何伯言画山,内心极为辛苦,
他不画山林的外形,只画其内在的意趣。
不知这绢帛有多厚,
隐隐约约深入其中,仿佛有路可寻。
去年他拿着这些画去求见权贵,
几幅画就换得了官职和钱财。
平民的固定家产总有卖尽的时候,
但他笔端创造的财富却无穷无尽。
而如今,东绢(一种画绢)不知用了多少,
却不是用来作水墨画,而是做了日常的衣裤。
我怜悯何伯言年纪愈老却愈加痴迷,
平民百姓都吃饱了,唯独你还在挨饿。
He Bo-yan paints mountains with a heart of utmost toil,
He paints not the woods and hills, but their essential soul.
Who knows how thick this silk might be, this canvas of his toil?
Dimly, deep within, a path seems to lead to a distant goal.
Last year, with these he sought the favor of the high and grand,
A few scrolls won him office and a sum of silver in hand.
The common folk's fixed assets can be sold and reach an end,
But from his brush tip flows a wealth that time cannot suspend.
And now, how many bolts of eastern silk are used, I muse,
Not for ink-wash art, but for robes and trousers for daily use.
I pity He, who in old age grows ever more obsessed,
While commoners are fed, you alone hunger, distressed.
