编结的不是茅草就是蓬蒿。
松木过于坚硬，难以开合；
竹条太过细瘦，徒然构成笼牢。
疏密完全没有固定的标准，
粗细也任凭其各不相同。
我向来懂得善于闭藏的道理，
难道会向这简陋的门户夸耀自己的功夫？

Woven of nothing but reeds and thatch, at best.
The stubborn pine makes opening and closing hard;
The slender bamboo forms a frail and loose guard.
Its weave, uneven, lacks a constant measure;
Its texture, coarse or fine, varies at leisure.
I've long known the art of keeping the world out—
Why boast of such skill here, without a doubt?
