四处寻求也已经很辛劳。
精心护持的笔管空如雪竹，
只因缺少了上好的霜白色毫毛来束缚。
这宝物（指好笔）藏匿在三个洞穴（指兔毫），
需要您（慷慨地）拔下一毛（来制作）。
我这胡须浓密的主簿不配使用它，
但若取用，它的价值确实很高。

No fine brush is found in the market fair;
To seek one far and wide is a weary care.
The bamboo shaft, like snow, is kept in vain;
It lacks the frost-white tip, the binding's bane.
This treasure hides in three holes, deep and sly;
I beg you, sir, to spare one hair from your supply.
Unfit for the bearded clerk's hand, I fear,
Yet its worth, when put to use, is truly dear.
