Well I know your heart, aspiring to transcend,
Is like water, clear and without end.
Rain on wutong leaves at dusk, a mournful tune,
Bitter is the heartless stream that flows so soon.
On and on it goes.
Today at the great river's head we stand,
Tomorrow finds us a thousand miles apart, across the land.
You think of bygone days.
Two sleeves filled with Huai clouds, one wheel of bright moonbeam,
These are but common things, or so they seem.
You depart now,
And I too shall cast off eastward in my little boat.
Why spare the wine before us? Let's share a drunken note.
Five years have not aged you, you're still strong and hale,
At fifty, wealth and honor shall prevail.
Write often, send word.
Tell me, like Wang Can, when will your Jingzhou plan be heard?
